Her Lesvos the president of PASOK-Movement for Change visits, Nikos Androulakis. He met with the mayor of Mytilini, Panagiotis Christofas, and following the meeting strongly criticized the government for the “staff state” as well as for the absence of support from the Local Government.

“The reforms that are necessary to strengthen local government with resources and capabilities to be closer to the citizen, have not been done in recent years. Unfortunately, what is called the “staff state” is a closed group of power, without disseminating the possibilities and dialogue with civil society, self-government, chambers, so that together we can plan and implement big plans for the homeland us” emphasized Mr. Androulakis. At the same time, he underlined the crooked, as he characterized it, targeting of the government regarding the utilization of the resources of the Recovery Fund.

“Europe gave billions of euros to rebuild the productive base of our country, which unfortunately proves to be another lost opportunity every day,” he added.

Mr. Androulakis particularly focused on the degradation of the welfare state and the increase in social inequalities.

“Unfortunately, here too – as in other parts of the country – there are open issues such as the degradation of the National Health System. It is a key priority for us to restructure public health because the services are being degraded despite the fight made by doctors and nurses and the cost of care is increasing due to the oligopolies in this sector,” he stressed.

Addressing the mayor of Mytilini, Mr. Androulakis said: “I have known Panagiotis for many years, as you know. We are particularly honored that a young man now has this important role to help his country as the mayor of Mytilene” and recalled his initiatives during his term in the European Parliament on the issues of pilot visas and reduced VAT.
