“It is something that is not talked about, often associated with sexual problems, but it can also cause depression or anxiety.”Raba told the BBC.

The 47-year-old Colombian actor, Juan Pablo Raba, confessed in an interview for BBC Mundo what his life was like after being diagnosed with andropause, better known as “male menopause”, which involves a decrease in the production of testosterone, which is the male sex hormone.

This condition can appear around the age of 40 when testosterone begins to decline, leading to loss of sexual appetite, erectile dysfunction and even emotional changes that are not often discussed.

“The doctor told me about hormone therapies and natural supplements. After following these treatments, the sweats disappeared and the testosterone levels returned to normal,” he explained. And one of the recommendations to treat this disorder is to carry out hormonal drug therapy.

“During the course of my own midlife crisis, I met many friends, acquaintances and professionals who were going through the same thing, and I realized that perhaps there were not enough spaces for everyone to understand what was happening to us.” Highlighting the importance of addressing this issue, which has often been “stigmatized,” generating the belief that talking about it makes men less of a man.

After this diagnosis and the social panorama that I perceived: “the patriarchal model of what a man is supposed to or should not be is so embedded in the collective psyche that it has affected us as individuals, as a group and as a society, filling us with imaginings that are very difficult to fulfill”, the actor of ‘Narcos’ and ‘Mi Gorda Bella’, decided to create a podcast called: ‘Men do cry’, a space to talk about men’s mental health.

“The idea of the podcast is to offer that space for conversation, so that people can empathize, identify with it and see what other people with very different lives and realities might be going through,” Raba told the BBC.
