There are smartphones offering more or less long autonomy, variable battery capacity or more or less fast charging mechanisms but ultimately, the battery will end up losing capacity and it may then be time to replace it.
There are applications to track the evolution of battery capacity over time but this function could soon be provided directly in the next version of Android, namely Android 15.
Rather than initiating this tracking upon installation of third-party applications without knowing what happened before, smartphones could benefit from direct monitoring of battery status in Android, notes the site Android Authority.
Android’s battery data-rich APIs
Battery health monitoring work started in Android 14 but it should only come to fruition with the next version. A first battery information function appeared with the Pixel Feature Drop of December 2023 which already delivers some useful data on the Pixel 8 such as the date of manufacture of the battery and the number of cycles but other information can be obtained elsewhere.

It is thus possible to obtain the date of first use, the charging protocol, the state of charge or a state of health of the battery giving the estimated capacity remaining at full charge.
A battery health status in Android 15?
Android Authority note that a section ” Battery Health ” had emerged with Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 but was not activated in the finalized version of Android 14. The settings application hides mentions showing that it will be possible to view an estimate of the remaining battery capacity as well as icon sets that could be used to signify the health of a smartphone’s battery and possibly indicate when it will be time to replace it.
Other indicators will also allow you to know if the battery is original or has been replaced. It remains to be seen if all these elements will be found in the Android 15 evolution expected between August and October 2024.
