Previously, most Samsung smartphones only received major OS updates for two years. In 2020, the company said that all Galaxy flagship phones released in 2019 and later, as well as the Galaxy A series, will receive 3 Android updates each. Samsung has finally decided to add a fourth year of major OS updates for its flagship phones and some midrange phones. This year, Android 14 will be the third and final update for select Samsung smartphones and tablets.
Here’s what we know
The list therefore includes four smartphones and one tablet:
Galaxy A52
Galaxy A52s
Galaxy A52 5G
Galaxy A72
Galaxy Tab S7 FE.
All of these devices were running Android 11 and were eligible for 3 major updates, which is why their support ends this year. Specifically, devices will continue to receive security patches and perhaps some minor One UI updates. But there will be no more new versions of Android for them.
By the way, the list doesn’t include devices that won’t upgrade to Android 14, because although they were launched with Android 12, they are not affected by Samsung’s three- or four-year update policy.
