CEDAR RAPIDS — A man police believe robbed a northeast Cedar Rapids bank Jan. 3 was arrested Wednesday in Louisiana, according to Cedar Rapids police.

Andrew Derr, 21, was arrested in New Orleans and was in the custody of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, authorities said, while arrangements were being made to bring him back to Iowa. He will face charges related to the armed robbery.

Cedar Rapids police responded about 9 a.m. Jan. 3 to the Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust branch at 5400 Council St. NE. for reports of an armed robbery. The assailant, who police said displayed a gun, was wearing a black mask and an Iowa Hawkeyes knit cap.

Last week, Cedar Rapids police investigators working with the FBI said they had identified the robber as Derr and appealed to the public for help in finding him, offering the possibility of a reward from the U.S. Marshal’s Service. They described him as armed and dangerous.

Cedar Rapids police did not say how he was found or whether a reward would be paid.
