Vienna (OTS) – Since the clarification of the counting failure of the SPÖ last Monday, it is clear: the new federal party chairman of the SPÖ is called Andreas Babler. In the Ö3 program “Breakfast with me”, the new SP boss laughed heartily at “Excel” jokes (“You shouldn’t miss a good joke.”), but announced: “I will commission that there be a new rules of procedure for election commissions. So that next time you count and add up by hand.” There has still not been a conversation with the defeated Hans-Peter Doskozil, Babler now wants to meet him: “We are in contact so that there is a concrete personal appointment.”
In an interview with Claudia Stöckl, Babler also revealed a lot of personal information:
In 1997 he first met his current wife Karin Blum – at that time a political science student and the first socialist student union chairwoman in Innsbruck – at events organized by the Socialist Youth in Tyrol. It took them seven years to get together. “We kept meeting, it was very special and at the same time we were in different relationships. But at some point it actually sparked.” On New Year’s Eve 2008, she then proposed to him on the Charles Bridge in Prague: “My whole life is very much dominated by strong feminist women and I thought to myself, why does the role model always have to be like that, where the man always asks for her hand? I even wished for it and was very happy.” For Andreas Babler, the most emotional moment of the past week was when his wife came into the office following hearing the news regarding his election victory: “We hugged each other deeply. A very profound moment.” And the 50-year-old from Lower Austria told his wife Karin Blum, campaign manager at “Kinderfreunde” and SPÖ municipal councilor on Ö3 Rosen: “She is not only my closest political companion, but also my great love.”
The new SPÖ boss, who spoke out in favor of the legalization of cannabis in “ZIB 2” this week, also admitted his own cannabis consumption in an interview with Claudia Stöckl: “Yes, earlier, of course. But I wasn’t a regular consumer.” Babler is still relaxed regarding videos and photos of youthful sins that political opponents allegedly have in their drawers: “I’ll put them in my album because unfortunately I’ve documented so little myself.”
In addition to the reorganization of the party, there is also the planning of private open spaces in addition to the dual function as SPÖ boss and Traiskirchner mayor. In addition to “pinball, that’s my favorite balance,” it’s regarding fixed times with his eight-year-old daughter Flora: “Breaking in the regular karate lesson with her is top of the list.”
