André Azoulay, in Marrakech: “Morocco opposes modernity to the fractures that are expressed in a fragmented world”

“In counterpoint to the regressions and fractures that cross a world in fragmentation, Morocco embodies the promises and hopes of a social and cultural modernity of which I invite you to take, here and now, the right measure”, affirmed in Marrakech André Azoulay, adviser to King Mohammed VI, Friday, December 16, 2022.

“Driven by the committed and proactive leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has chosen, in the land of Islam, to make the legitimacy and richness of all its diversities the central driving force behind the uniqueness of its society and of his identity,” explained André Azoulay, who spoke last Friday during a plenary session at the 11e edition of the Annual International Conference The Atlantic Dialogues (December 14-16, 2022), whose participants discussed the theme of “North-South Perspectives in a Fragmented World”.

Reforms which “have enabled our country to face, with lucidity and determination, the financial, health and international crises which have weakened and sometimes destabilized the international order” explained the King’s adviser.

Turning its back on the regressions, archaisms and identity withdrawals that are flourishing elsewhere, Morocco has been able to mark with its seal the consolidation of a society on the move, in consensus and stability, to provide a structural and lasting response to the major challenges of our time, recalled André Azoulay.

It is in this perspective that the adviser of His Majesty the King then reviewed the projects that Morocco has been able to anticipate, whether it is the unprecedented dynamics of the medium and long-term development plan that the OCP is preparing to implement the visionary strategy that Morocco has initiated to promote and enhance its renewable energy deposits, while setting a date and mobilizing to develop, tomorrow, its exceptional potential in green hydrogen.

Speaking then during a panel, before Hubert Védrine, former French Minister for Foreign Affairs, the adviser to His Majesty the King highlighted “the global and inclusive nature of the social project that Morocco has chosen to build without ever turning its back on the fundamentals of its history, its traditions and the pluralism which has nourished and forged our civilization over the centuries to embody today, in our Region, the most complete reference of a Nation at peace with itself and who was able, without hesitation or qualms, to consolidate his leadership with realism and lucidity to face the complexity of the challenges he will face tomorrow”.

Hubert Védrine, for his part, dwelt on the historical relations between Morocco and France, and underlined that the long-term history between Paris and Rabat was “exceptional”, affirming that a “unique phenomenon of relations s has developed over the years between French and Moroccan societies, the French and Moroccan elites, as well as the French and Moroccan middle classes in all areas”.

“It is a treasure which we inherited from this common past”, he welcomed, indicating that “crises at certain times obviously occurred, but it was always overcome”.

Hubert Védrine also explained that despite the “chaotic magma of globalization”, there are areas in which France and Morocco are exactly the “right partners”, adding that the two countries are called upon to achieve enormous things together”. in the coming decades.
