Last month, a scale collapse accident at the Anderson Road site resulted in 3 deaths and 6 injuries. After that, the Labour Department issued temporary suspension notices to a total of 10 sites of Jingjin Construction to stop the operation of the scales on the sites. For more than a month now, Jingjin’s site has been shut down due to the inability to use the scale, and many types of work have been affected without work or food. Following yesterday’s demonstration by regarding 100 workers in Tung Chung District 100 at the construction site, today (13th) there are at least five more progressive sites regarding hundreds of workers protesting collectively, including the Tung Yuen Street site in Yau Tong, the Choi Die Street site in Tai Po, and Tuen Mun. Area 29 West Site, Pak Tin Estate Phase 10 Site, and To Wah Road Site, Yau Ma Tei.

A large number of workers held up banners outside the site to demonstrate, chanting slogans such as “Hands stop, stop talking, click on the scales to stop”, “We want to resume work, ask the government to open the scales” and other slogans. After receiving the report, the police dispatched officers to the scene to mediate and maintain order.
