Gas stations
Written by Rainer Ackermann
From Friday, the price of petrol is likely to be higher than the price per liter of diesel fuel once more.
The specialized portal holtankoljak.hu assumes that the MOL Group will increase the wholesale price of gasoline by 7 forints before the weekend, but will probably reduce that of diesel by 3 forints. The average prices at gas stations are then around 650 forints (1.65 euros), with a small price advantage for diesel. Since last summer, diesel fuel has no longer been cheaper than filling up with gasoline.
Regional monitoring is coming
Also on Friday, the KSH statistics office will put its new system online, which promises to monitor regional gas station prices. As the office announced on Wednesday, the basis is the Eurostat Oil Bulletin, from whose database the KSH will calculate the average prices in the region. Economy Minister Márton Nagy had previously complained to the wholesaler MOL and the mineral oil association MÁSZ that the industry was not sticking to the agreement with the government: the prices were not in the middle of the region, but at the top. The sharpened KSH monitoring is intended to offer the government a tool to (once once more) intervene in the market.
Up to five percent less fuel
Incidentally, the demand for fuel fell by 2% to less than 880 million liters in the first quarter. According to MÁSZ information, gasoline sales stagnated (by 345 million liters), while diesel sales fell by 3% to 535 million liters. While premium products boomed, consumption of “normal” fuels fell by 3-5%.
