“And on the sidelines of the 2022 World Cup”…

Why this section? Because there are many new products this fall, and you certainly expect to see them all on our mini site « World of cars » in which you traditionally find new models from all manufacturers.

However, several manufacturers having chosen not to be present at this edition of the Paris Motor Show 2022, a certain number of new products will not be exhibited at Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. In order to give you an exhaustive vision and meet your expectations, we have nevertheless chosen to publish them in the mini-site Caradisiac dedicated to the Paris Motor Showbut in a special section “And on the sidelines of the Mondial de l’Auto”.

“There will be no convertible version because the carbon monocoque of the Chiron is not designed for that”. This is what Bugatti’s communicators argued at the geneva motor show 2016 when we asked them if the Molsheim brand planned, as for the previous Veyron, to remove the roof of the new Chiron one day. Six years later, however, the Alsatian brand unveils an ultimate version of its roofless supercar! The new W16 Mistral, with certain styling details reminiscent of the 1934 Bugatti Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid, is indeed presented in the form of an extravagant roadster to be driven “hair in the wind” unlike all versions of the Chiron (and the few special series offered in recent years).

The rear part is inspired by the Bugatti Bolide reserved for the circuit

The W16 Mistral, whose name evokes the famous wind that dehorns the oxen throughout the western part of the Côte d’Azur, thus takes over from the former Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. The latter remains to this day the fastest open car in the world, 10 years following its officially approved record at 408.84 km/h.

With an eight-litre quad-turbo W16 increased to 1,600 horsepower – as on the Chiron Super Sport and the Centodieci – it will probably have no trouble beating this record. Bugatti also announces a top speed of 420 km/h for the W16 Mistral and the official press release specifies that it aims to “become once once more the fastest roadster in the world”.

Six million euros and 99 copies

Due to the removal of the roof, it was necessary to “totally rethink the carbon monocoque of the Chiron” according to the press release. Bugatti explains that it is not simply cut at roof level without going into technical details. Its design is inspired a little by the Centodieci (profile) but also by the Divo (optics) and the Bolide (stern). Bugatti does not reveal the details of the technical sheet for the moment but we already know that it will cost five million euros without taxes, or six million euros all round here in France.

It will be limited to 99 copies, all already sold. It is therefore no longer possible today to order a car from Bugatti since all the copies of the Chiron have also been sold. Note that these are the very last years of the big W16 launched in 2005 with the Veyron. After this W16 Mistral and the Bolide reserved for the circuit, it will definitively disappear from the Bugatti range and will be replaced by a hybrid combustion engine.
