And it’s not Hürrem! With which woman Sultan Suleiman is buried in his mausoleum

Coming to Istanbul, many fans of the Turkish TV series “The Magnificent Century” think that Sultan Suleiman is buried in the same tomb with his beloved Haseki Hürrem Sultan. But this is not true at all. The Slavic favorite of the padishah, who, having entered the harem of the Ottoman dynasty, converted to Islam, is indeed buried next to the ruler in the courtyard of the Suleymaniye mosque. However, a separate mausoleum was allocated for the padishah.

Of course, this does not mean that only Sultan Suleiman rests in it. Nearby is another grave that belongs to a woman. And not just a woman, but the Sultana of the Ottoman dynasty. Of all the children of Sultan Suleiman, such an honor was given only to his beloved daughter Mihrimah Sultan. It was she who was buried next to the padishah.

Mihrimah Sultan was considered the favorite child of Sultan Suleiman. After the death of Alexandra Anastasia Lisowska, the Sultan, her only daughter, one might say, received power that others might only dream of. Mihrimah Sultan ruled the harem for many years, becoming a confidant of her father. She, in fact, performed the duties of the Valide Sultan. Even following the death of her father, Roksolana’s daughter remained in the harem, sharing power with Nurbanu Sultan, the favorite of her brother Selim II.

According to one version, Mihrimah Sultan was not at all at enmity with Shekhzade, who, following the death of Sultan Suleiman, took the Ottoman throne. And on the contrary, she became a faithful adviser for Selim II. Years later, Mihrimah Sultan retired from the palace, leaving the management of the harem to Nurban Sultan. Well, following the death of the daughter Alexandra Anastasia Lisowska Sultan was buried in the same mausoleum with Sultan Suleiman.
