Mummies smell nicer than you might think. Apparently, the Moesgaard Museum in Højbjerg, Denmark, wants to demonstrate this in an upcoming exhibition in which the “smell of eternity” will be presented. The ancient mummification is brought closer to the visitors of the museum, in which some bog corpses are also exhibited. The basis for the fragrance mixture is provided by a current study in the journal “Scientific Reports”: In it, the research team led by Barbara Huber and Nicole Boivin from the Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology in Jena shows which substances Senetnay’s mummified body parts were treated with.
