Anchery Baby Murder: Kerala HC acquitted MM Mani

The Thodupuzha Sessions Court rejected the release petition and the accused approached the High Court

Kochi: In the Ancheri baby murder case, CPM leader and MLA M. M. Mani was acquitted by the high court. Apart from Mani, CPM leaders from Idukki O. G. Madanan and Pampupara Kuttan were also acquitted by the court.

M. M. The case was registered during the UDF government on the basis of new evidence following the ‘one to three’ speech made by Mani Manakkad. The Thodupuzha Sessions Court rejected the release petition and the accused approached the High Court.

Ancheri Baby, the Thodupuzha Youth Congress block president, was shot dead on November 13, 1982. The first witness in the case is Chittady Johnny and the third accused is P.S. N. Mani was charged on the basis of Mohandas’ statement.

The trial court had earlier acquitted the accused in the case. Following the completion of the trial, the court sought permission from the court on the basis of new evidence. Apart from Ancheri Baby, the special team had also investigated the deaths of Mullanchira Mathai and Muttukadu Nanappan.
