Ancestral medicine is applied in Apan – El Sol de Hidalgo

APAN, Hgo.- Members of the Ollín Ehécatl group carried out yesterday on the esplanade of the Municipal Garden a day of healing with ancestral medicine, an alternative treatment that uses sounds, herbs and incense as healing methods. Alejandra Espinoza, a sahumadora with nearly thirty years of experience, said that this type of traditional treatment is recognized as a fundamental resource for health, since it unites the worldview of indigenous peoples and represents millennial knowledge regarding the land and the use of medicinal plants that our ancestors protected, in addition to the fact that these procedures have an incalculable value in the preservation of the identity of the original peoples.

He explained that ancestral Mexican medicine is a mosaic of pieces from different cultures that have historically determined the development of the national culture. “The culture of our country comes from the union that occurred between the pre-Hispanic and Spanish cultures fused since the end of the 16th century.” He said that the four healers who met in this journey of ancestral medicine use, among other elements, electromedicine, the alignment of the seven energetic points, incense and sounds to cure various ailments such as pain, anxiety, constipation, fatigue, stress, colitis and hypertension.

Likewise, he indicated, among the healers is an expert in spinal alignment and arrangement of internal organs, who not only has traditional knowledge, but also has the necessary academic knowledge to carry out this practice. He explained that another of the techniques used by healers is related to the use of pre-Hispanic instruments such as the snail and the drum, which are used to make energy alignments. He added that the World Health Organization (WHO) carried out a general analysis of the current situation of traditional medicine around the world, collaborating with experts and advocating a strategy on traditional medicine from 2014 to this 2023.
