Drahi, Naouri: the Cassandres are already predicting the same fate for the boss of Altice as that of the strong man of the Casino supermarkets, who fell a few weeks ago. The two tycoons have one thing in common: they have built empires on debt. Both pied-noirs, they represent France’s most entrepreneurial elite. Coming from the best republican schools, they succeeded, from scratch, in symbolizing success in their sectors: mass distribution for Naouri, telecommunications for Drahi.

Both have been overtaken by rising interest rates. Naouri was the first to fall for a debt of 6 billion euros. Drahi’s empire is ten times more indebted. A corruption case orchestrated from Portugal has drawn the attention of its creditors. He has tried to reassure them over the past few days. An exercise in which he excels, because it is not the first time that he finds himself “back to the wall of debt”.
