Analyzing Sergio Pérez’s Performance in the 2023 Qatar GP: Qualifying Struggles and Race Expectations

2023-10-06 23:04:57

The Mexican Sergio Pérez will start from thirteenth position in the 2023 Qatar GP following a poor performance in qualifying that contrasts with the optimal performance of his teammate Max Verstappen.

For this reason, Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing’s main team, was asked if within the team there is a general feeling of saying ‘thank God we have Max’.

“Absolutely. That is, we would still be leading the World Championship with Checo if we didn’t have him, but obviously the distance between the two is difficult to explain at the moment,” said the Briton in an interview for Sky Sports F1 from the Lusail International Circuit.

“Look, it’s a difficult time for Checo, but he’s an experienced guy. “He obviously has all that pressure on his shoulders for being in one of the hottest seats in Formula 1,” he added.

Likewise, Christian Horner did not hesitate to point out that the qualifying sessions are not the Guadalajara driver’s forte, but that does not prevent him from trusting that he is capable of achieving a good result in the race.

“I think Checo responds better to an arm around the shoulder. With Checo we know what he is capable of and we know that he is a great driver and qualifying is always his Achilles heel,” he declared at the Sky Sports F1 microphone.

“We have to support him through these difficult times to make sure he comes back strong tomorrow and of course in the race on Sunday. We just have to support him as a team and try to do our best to get the best out of him and make sure he finishes in that second place in the Championship,” added the boss of the Austrian team.
