Marco Bezzecchi wants to analyze the performance of Pecco Bagnaia in the sprint race at the Italian Grand Prix, in order to oppose him with greater resistance in the main event.

Marco Bezzecchi was once again at the rendezvous in the sprint race at Mugello. The one who created the surprise by winning two races since the start of the season only set the seventh fastest time in qualifying but he quickly gained positions in the sprint race and finally saw the finish in second place, in the wheel of I’m sorry Bagnaia.

“In the end, I was a little disappointed [samedi] morning after qualifying”admitted Bezzecchi at a press conference. “I expected a little more from myself but I didn’t manage to set a better time, seventh place was the best possible. I was still confident because the pace was good.”

“The start was key. Luckily I had a good one and then the fight was good because when the rain came I felt good. I was able to gain a few positions and get closer to Pecco. Unfortunately, not enough, but it was still very good.”

The raindrops that appeared at the start of the sprint indeed allowed Bezzecchi to move from sixth to second place in three laps and close the gap with Bagnaia. He was very comfortable in these conditions: “It was a bit easier for me than for Pecco because I had it as a reference. I saw the situation better and I understood better what I had to do on the bike.”

Once in the wake of his compatriot, Bezzecchi was however unable to attack. “He was a little faster than me under braking, where you can overtake”he admitted to the official MotoGP website. “I was getting closer but then I was losing a bit every time. He was very good coming out of the last corner so it was hard to take the draft to pass him. I tried to stay as close as possible for the push him to error, put pressure on him, but he managed very well.”

Already seventh on the starting grid at Le Mans and finally winner, Marco Bezzecchi seems to have the potential to do just as well this weekend, but he will first have to analyze the strengths of Pecco Bagnaia to reach his level.

“I hope it will be a little different [ce dimanche]. And if I’m with Pecco, it’s because I’m in front. He was slightly better than me everywhere. In the middle of the sprint I was able to come back a bit, maybe taking a bit more risk than him, but he was a bit stronger and in the last two laps he was able to build a small gap. I’m going to study it a lot.”

Bezzecchi expects a race with a different physiognomy from the sprint, with tire management to take into account: “It will be a different race because the tires degrade very quickly. We will use different tyres. I don’t know. We will see the weather and then the race.”

“The KTMs are fast, the Aprilias too. Honda is fast with Marc [Márquez]they are getting faster and faster.he added. “You never know what can happen in the race.”
