Following the conclusion of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, various international analysts have spoken out evaluating China’s exponential growth under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. With the reform of the 21st century as the helm of this turn towards modernization, the Asian giant is definitely in a new era.
Hussain Sayed, former Chairman of Pakistan Senate Defense Committee on the programme. The fifth episode focuses on the third plenary session of the XX Central Committee of the PCC that has just concluded. Guests discuss key takeaways from this meeting, how China’s reform benefits the world, and misunderstandings toward China’s reform process.
Asked by Chinese public television, on CGTN’s Global South Voices program, Masood Khalid, former Pakistani ambassador to China, focused on the key points of the recent plenary session, particularly China’s reform path and its focused approach in the village. He said: “If you look at China’s progress, it is gradual and definitive. “He has achieved what can be described as the transformation of China over the last 40 years and the transformation of the world economy.”
He added that the importance of this CCP plenary session is fundamental to understanding the path towards China’s modernization. “I think the most interesting thing I found was the emphasis on the word “reform,” particularly the deepening of the reforms. The word “reform” has been used countless times in this document. This shows the clarity of Chinese leadership in terms of the future trajectory. “China wants to follow the clear deadlines provided, aiming to achieve a high-level socialist market economy by 2035,” he said.
On the other hand, Jack Perry, president of the 48 Group Club in the United Kingdom, which has deep ties with China, thinks there is “great potential in collaborating with Chinese companies. In the past, the West’s arrogance led to the loss of many opportunities. However, China has now caught up, leading the way in many fields such as infrastructure and biopharmaceuticals, and has genuinely contributed to the development of Western countries.”
Jack Perry’s grandfather, who had the same name, is known as the “icebreaker” of Sino-British relations. In 1953, Jack Perry, then president of the London Export Corporation, led a group of British businessmen to break the Western world’s blockade of the newly created People’s Republic of China. Overcoming numerous obstacles, they began trade exchanges with China. The following year, 48 British companies aspiring to trade with China founded the “48 Group of British China Traders”, which was renamed the “48 Group Club” in 1991.
Therefore, Perry urges Western companies to pay more attention to China’s reforms and innovations, as this will be mutually beneficial.
Development without looting anyone
Gerald Mbanda, founder of Africa China Review, said China’s development depends on itself, not on plunder and occupation. He gave the example that during the COVID-19 pandemic, China was the first country to provide vaccines to other countries. On the other hand, he said bluntly: “I see that China is seeking high-quality development, but with a human face and heart.”
Experts and analysts agreed that as China’s international influence grows, the international community continues to misinterpret this country’s image. China’s international reform and opening-up environment has also undergone important changes as its economic size has grown and its voice has increased. Some countries have misunderstood and harmed China’s reform and development, and even deliberately smeared them.
Regarding the US strategy towards China, Victor Gao, vice president of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), believes that the United States is looking for any means, ethical or not, to stop the imminent rise of China as the world’s leading economic power.
Gao says that currently, the United States appears to be employing the “any means necessary” approach in its strategy toward China. However, he maintains that it is impossible for the United States to eliminate China in global competition.
Instead, “China is the megatrend. China is here to stay. “China is committed to peace and stability and works with all countries as equals,” she assured.
