Munich (ots) – The costs for the holiday car are falling: the rental car at the travel destination is once more available for smaller sums than in the previous year. A big advantage for those who love to travel, as the prices of almost all other components of a trip in 2023 will shoot up significantly. In the middle of the high season, the rental car prices are on average 100 euros below the previous year’s price. This is the lowest price in two years. At the same time, there is a growing preference for last-minute items, which was also clearly evident last month. Due to these two factors, the quality rental car operator recorded Sunny Cars the highest number of bookings in a July. The lion’s share of these: reservations made very quickly.
Price development:
After prices rose once more in May and June 2023, they fell significantly in the past month. With an average of 471 euros, they are lower than they have been for two years. In direct relation to July 2023, holidaymakers are currently saving around 100 euros per rental.
Trend bookings:
The rental car bookings don’t stop. In the last two years, the number of reservations in July, i.e. in the high season, has always decreased. Because the travelers booked earlier. In 2023, on the other hand, the total number continues to rise and is above the previous months. “A look at the time before the pandemic shows this trend even more clearly,” says Thorsten Lehmann, Managing Director of Sunny Cars. “Our number of bookings in July 2023 is more than ten percent higher than in the same month of 2019. This means that our last-minute forecast has come true. We assume that numerous holidaymakers will still rent their holiday car at the last minute in August.”
Tip of the month:
In the high season, numerous airports are once more reporting flight postponements or delays. This also affects rental car customers. If the airline changes the flight times, the rental car provider must be informed immediately. “In order for us to be able to keep up with our performance, we need this help,” emphasizes Thorsten Lehmann. “Then we make sure that the vehicle is still available.”
