Soto, born in August 1990, confirmed her personal good moment by obtaining the gold medal in the XIV Americas Championship, which is being held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This tournament began on February 29 and will continue until March 9, and this Sunday, they knew how to assert themselves, to win the final of the event, over their rivals.
Her 40 points were enough to stand out from her pursuers, in second place, the Mexican Alejandra Ramírez Caballero (37), in third place, Ryann Paige Phillips of the United States with 30 and in fourth, Carey Jeana Garrison, also an American, with 27 points .
It is notable that Ramírez has been an important rival in Soto’s career, with whom she lost in the Pan-American event in Lima, Peru, in 2019. So this victory was, in some way, a revenge.
About her triumph, the Olympic athlete in Tokyo 2020 commented: “I am very happy and grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to qualify for my second Olympic Games and also for having achieved gold in this Pan American championship”.
It is worth remembering that, 4 months ago, Soto, along with the other classified, Adriana Ruano, won the gold and silver medal in Santiago, Chile, during the Pan American Games. And, in theory, by taking second place on that occasion, she might have gone to the Olympic Games, but according to the president of the American Hunting Shooting Confederation, Carlos Silva, “The International Federation said that an Olympic Committee might only win one place in the same event, so they gave the place to the American who came in third place”.
Continuing with her comment, the current gold winner confirmed her sadness for not being able to compete with the colors of our country and the impediment of hearing the notes of the National Anthem during the award ceremony. “Sad, with this feeling of not being able to hear the National Anthem on the podium, but let’s go with everything towards Paris!”he commented in a video following the ceremony.
The Brol in the final
In the men’s division of the XIV Americas Championship, the Brol brothers, Jean-Pierre and Herbert, also reached the final. However, only the first, Jean-Pierre, got his ticket to Paris at the Pan American Games in Santiago, and on this occasion he won the bronze medal.
For his part, Herbert, his brother, who had qualified in first place in this Sunday’s final, finished in 5th place at the end of the competition. The podium was completed, in first place, by the American Derrick Mein Scott and in second place by the Dominican, Eduardo Lorenzo.
Now, this Wednesday, it will be the turn of the athletes who will participate in the Skeet modality, in men, they are; Sebastián Bermúdez, Carlos Padilla, and Santiago Romero. For her part, Emily Padilla will compete for women.
