An off-duty pilot managed to save a Southwest Airlines flight, whose pilot needed medical attention during the flight, according to Sky News, as the off-duty pilot helped land the plane, while the co-pilot took control.

The flight was bound for Columbus, Ohio, where it remained airborne for just over an hour before returning safely to Las Vegas.

Southwest Flight 6013 was forced to return to Las Vegas on Wednesday, as urgent medical attention was needed for the pilot, who was “incapacitated.” Fortunately, a passenger was in a good position to assist the crew.

In the radio archive recordings, the co-pilot is heard saying, “The captain became incapacitated during his flight (…) He is now in the back of the plane with the cabin crew, but we need to get him out in an ambulance immediately,” and Southwest Airlines advanced, Thanks to the “rescuer” pilot, who landed the plane without hesitation to help.

The plane was able to land safely, and a replacement crew was able to take over and operate the flight to Columbus. The condition of the pilot, who required medical attention, has not yet been announced.
