An obstacle to the spread of electric cars has been named

Scientists have analyzed the state of electric car charging stations around the world using artificial intelligence (AI). The experts used data from North America, Europe, and Asia over the past 10 years. It turned out that regarding 20 percent of charging stations in the United States are not working – that is, every fifth station in the country is faulty.

The study found that U.S. stations were experiencing “critical reliability issues,” citing quality issues as another obstacle to the spread of electric vehicles in the country. “Imagine going to a traditional gas station and two times out of 10 the pumps are faulty,” said HBS research fellow Omar Asencio. He said that would be a riot among owners of gasoline or diesel cars.

The report also found that charging stations are unevenly distributed across the U.S., with charging stations typically concentrated in large population centers and affluent neighborhoods, and much less common in rural areas and smaller towns. The researchers called some parts of the country without stations “deserts.”
