Mixed heritage
“I have never been a fan of the name “White Country” which has a pejorative connotation, nor of the promotion made by the City to the Tourist Office, it was DIY. But the project that what you are proposing to us today is still interesting. I will support it 200%”, commented Samuel Vincent (UCA). “Of course, we have some dust falling out but we are lucky to have both a modern tool and an industrial heritage. If in the long term we can highlight this heritage and make it a real tourist hub, I believe that the “we might really stand out and attract a large audience to Antoing”, said the advisor who didn’t stop there. “The project to highlight the material that we have at the Tourist Office added to the Calonne cemetery where we have remarkable tombs of former quarry bosses, and therefore to imagine a route through the old quarries de Bruyelle, I can only applaud. The whole thing might be promising. There will be a significant investment to make at the start”, he clarified.
Nature and local residents
“The project is interesting in relation to the past, present and future”, Jean-Bernard Vivier (GO) spoke. “It is interesting to list Antoing’s past. The present is also important when we see the current career and for the future, why not consider visiting the future career of Bruyelle. Nevertheless, let’s not forget to protect all this nature which is coming back to life but, let’s not also forget the people already impacted by the company which is near them. This will have to be resolved in an intelligent and thoughtful manner. Fifteen million euros for this project “is magnificent but we will have to find subsidies”, he concluded. “This is the biggest project and investment ever made in Antoing,” added Samuel Vincent, who would like to set up a working group.
