A recent study conducted in Europe revealed that an insect transmits a new disease called “Lyme disease” whose symptoms are similar to those of the flu, including muscle and joint pain, headache, nausea and vomiting.
The study confirmed that men over 50 years of age who live in rural areas are most at risk, as the condition is rarely fatal, and is caused by a tick bite with a rash.
The study showed that farmers and workers who regularly interact with host animals such as dogs and sheep were more likely to be bitten by infected ticks, and that more than 14 percent of the world’s population were likely to suffer from Lyme disease.
