The father from Zakynthos who was accused of seduction, rape and incest of his underage daughter was found innocent by the Mixed Court of Appeal of Patras.
The man had been acquitted in the first instance in Pyrgos, but yesterday he was again called to sit in the defendant’s dock, following an appeal filed by the Patras Appellate Prosecutor.
The charges against him were, also in this trial, the seduction of his minor daughter, who at the time has reached the age of 12, serial incest and rape. Heavy indictment, which was also dropped in the Court of Appeal, with him declaring himself relieved because he is returning clean to society, but deeply troubled, because because of a lie he spent 12 months in prison, paying a high price for eight years, as he said in his apology.
The man was charged following a complaint made in 2016 in Zakynthos, according to which a minor girl had been the victim of repeated sexual abuse by his father and was remanded in custody, not on the basis of objective evidence (forensic report) but on the testimony of a young girl , which proved unfounded.
She herself, in her testimony the day before yesterday at the Court of Appeal of Patras, declared her belief that the accused had not committed the crimes for which he was accused and that his minor daughter “had put them out of her mind as a reaction because her parents did not want the boy she was having an affair with.’
The defendant, apologizing in court, denied the accusations and described what he went through in recent years because of this case: “I lost my job, I was destroyed by these lies. If I don’t come clean from the courts, I can’t go back to the island.”
The public prosecutor proposed the defendant’s acquittal and the court acquitted him.
