An independence holiday camp to foster talent in Port-Gentil and combat idleness among young people –

100 young people from the four districts of the economic capital from disadvantaged families participated in the independence holiday camp from August 1 to 12, 2024. An action driven by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Michel Régis Onanga Ndiaye, who wants to develop tomorrow’s talents through this major meeting through the practice of football.

“There are a total of 100 children from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been selected to participate in this independence holiday camp. This is a trial run and we hope that next year we will have all the disciplines.”explains the president of the organizing committee Tricia Revazzat, who is also responsible for the mission of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This independence holiday camp was placed under the technical supervision of the most experienced training center in the province of Ogooué-Maritime, Terre de Foot Gabon (TFG), which places the development of football among young people at the heart of its ambitions. During the period from August 1 to 12, these young people benefited from 3 hours of knowledge of the basics of football supervised by coaches experienced in the task.

“The children are currently benefiting from the basics of football. They are learning how to pass, control, juggle and position themselves on a football pitch. I dare say that there are some nuggets,” said Lambert Boumbendje, president of Terre de foot Gabon.

Promoting love for one’s neighbor, self-development, self-confidence, team spirit, mutual respect, solidarity and commitment, these are the objectives of this independence holiday camp. It also aimed to combat idleness among young people, drugs, alcohol consumption and juvenile delinquency. Transported each morning by Terre de Foot Gabon buses from the four districts of the economic capital to the Pierre Claver Divounguy stadium, these young people also benefited from the escort of the National Police, a hearty breakfast before the practical session, careful hydration and advice from professional coaches. The mission of this independence holiday camp is to arouse in them a love of sport and football in particular for a healthy and healthy youth.

For Tricia Revazzat, “The objective was to fight against juvenile delinquency because idleness is the mother of vices. It will therefore allow these children to flourish, grow and learn discipline through sport. We would like this to continue.”

While many young people passionate about football are currently discovering the benefits of this king of sports, in just a few days, quite a few young people have demonstrated their ambitions and caught the attention of the coaches and professionals at the Terre de Foot Gabon training center.

“We discovered that there are many children who are not in football clubs. We want to help these young people fight against banditry, drugs, alcohol by loving sport,” said Lambert Boumbendje.
