An Incredible Kidney Donation Story: How a Facebook Friend Saved a Mother’s Life and Reunited with a Grateful Family

Molly Jones from the US state of Ohio suffers from severe kidney disease. She is worried regarding not getting a donor kidney in time, leaving her 15-year-old daughter behind.

She therefore asks for a kidney donation via Facebook. In an emotional post, she explains her situation. Then comes Kristi Hadfield, a Facebook friend who Molly has never met in person. And: It’s the same woman who saved Molly’s father’s life six years ago.

The world is small in rural Richie County, West Virginia. Molly’s father, John Cunningham, a former Marine, reported to an ambulance where Hadfield worked as a paramedic.

He was not feeling well and had to be taken to a hospital 45 minutes away. On the way, Cunningham suffered cardiac arrest. Hadfield was able to resuscitate him with chest compressions.

She later sent him a friend request on Facebook to see how he was doing. Shortly therefollowing, Molly Jones also sent Hadfield a friend request. “I wanted to know who saved my father,” Jones told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Now, six years later, she needs the help of the same paramedic.

After the women determined they both had A+ blood type, Hadfield attempted to donate her kidney. According to her own statements, she might never have imagined this before. But the will to help the family was stronger than the fear of a transplant. “This family has captured a piece of my heart,” says Hadfield.

On December 27, 2022, following weeks of kidney dialysis, Jones finally received her new kidney. And it’s an absolute success. Now, Hadfield has already saved two of that family’s lives while also allowing Jones to watch their daughter grow up.
