An important transaction between CH and the Flyers would have aborted before the deadline

We reported to you earlier this week that a trade between the Canadiens and the Boston Bruins, involving defender Ben Chiarot, would have failed shortly before the trade deadline.

It would seem that another important transaction from the Canadian would also have failed in recent weeks, this time with the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to what the journalist reports Eric Engels from Sportsnetthe CH and the Flyers had a trade on the table that looked like this:

The defender Jeff Petry (with a percentage of salary withheld) to Philadelphia in return for the striker James van Riemsdyk as well as good hope.

We do not know the percentage of salary that the Canadian should have retained or the identity of the hope in question.

Still according to the journalist, this transaction might be discussed once more during the offseason but it will require Petry to lift his no-trade clause, he who has the Flyers in his list of 15 teams where he does not want to be traded. Could he put water in his wine to find his family in the United States? Engels also mentions the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars as potential teams interested in acquiring him over the summer.

34 years old, Jeff Petry compiles a record of 4 goals and 12 assists for a total of 16 points in 57 games so far this season. He is currently in the first year of his 4-year contract earning him an average of $6.25 million per season.

32 years old, James van Riemsdyk compiled a record of 15 goals and 12 assists for a total of 27 points in 64 games so far this season. He is currently in the fourth year of his 5-year contract earning him an average of $7 million per season.

Everything indicates that the DG Kent Hughes will do everything in his power to trade Petry in the off-season and that he shouldn’t be back in Montreal to start next season.
