An extra effort for athletes: Strava increases the price of its subscription

Many athletes will sweat profusely just by seeing their next bill Strava. The hugely popular sports tracking app will soon cost more in its full package. The editor announced that the increase will take effect from February 2 for users who subscribed before November 23, 2022. For those who subscribed following this date, the amount will not change. This increase concerns users from several countries, including France, Canada and the United States.

The extent of the increase is difficult to specify, because it is not the same according to the countries and the subscribers, the duration of the subscription being a criterion. As reported by the specialized site DC Rainmaker and athletes on Redditsome members were warned that the amount of their invoice was going to double, others that they would have to pay “only” 33% more.

A spokesperson explained to The Verge that Strava had chosen to gradually and individually inform the users concerned, which led to the current confusion. According to the publisher, it is the 30,000 users who subscribed before 2016 who will experience the most significant increase. The service has over 100 million users in total, but the number of subscribers is unknown.

In short, if you subscribed to Strava’s paid plan before November 23, 2022, expect to see your bill go up, if you haven’t already. For new subscribers, the non-binding monthly formula has recently gone from €7.99/month to €9.99/month. At present, the annual formula remains displayed at 59.99 € / year for newcomers, but it is not said that it will remain so indefinitely. The subscription allows you to unlock many features, including the design of routes, the creation of objectives, the training diary or the personal activity map.
