an extension of 200 million euros to accelerate deployment, announces Clément Beaune

An additional two hundred million euros will be mobilized by the government to accelerate the development of electric terminals in France, the Minister of Transport announced to AFP, who is bringing together stakeholders in the sector with the Minister of Energy Transition on Friday. “We are moving up a gear this fall on electric cars: an additional 200 million euros to accelerate the deployment of terminals, strengthening of the ecological bonus for the most modest, arrival of social leasing for the middle classes, simplification of retrofit,” said declared Clément Beaune, summarizing the announcements planned for Friday in front of professionals in the sector.

With 110,000 public terminals installed, a 4-fold increase in four years, people close to the minister say, France has started to catch up. The country, whose transport constitutes the leading sector emitting greenhouse gases (32% in 2022), is now the second best equipped country, behind the Netherlands and ahead of Germany.

400,000 terminals by 2030

But only 10% of French terminals are fast-charging, mainly on motorway service areas, even though these devices are considered essential to convince motorists to give up the thermal engine.

President Emmanuel Macron has set a target of 400,000 public terminals by 2030. At the same time, the number of electric vehicles should increase tenfold, to reach 13 million, according to projections from Avere, a gathering of manufacturers in the sector.

The new envelope of 200 million euros should make it possible to “support the development of fast charging terminals” and the installation in “three specific areas: collective residential, on-road terminals, and charging for heavy goods vehicles”. we specify in Clément Beaune’s office. These new credits will make it possible “to finance, for example, terminals in co-ownerships”, underlined the Minister of Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

The State will be able to finance “up to 50% of the work” to install terminals in a co-ownership, the minister indicated on BFM/RMC, adding that the State might also take charge, if necessary, “part road works if necessary.

“Lower the rental to 100 euros for individuals”

At the same time, the ecological bonus granted to the most modest to buy an electric vehicle, currently 7,000 euros, will be “revalued” but “the figure has not yet been arbitrated”, affirms Clément Beaune’s office. The tax credit for installing a home terminal must increase from 300 to 500 euros, it is added.

Finally, the decrees setting the rules for the social leasing system, allowing the most modest to access electricity for 100 euros per month, “will be published in the next few days”, announces the cabinet. By combining ecological bonus and leasing aid, “the idea is to have very significant aid from the State for the first rent and thus lower the rental to 100 euros for individuals”, we detailed.

Other measures are planned, including a tax advantage for companies to modify the engine of a thermal vehicle with electric or hydrogen, known as “retrofit”. In September, 19.1% of new registrations in France concerned 100% electric vehicles, according to ministry figures.
