An expert explains the goal of Washington and NATO in their nuclear exercises

Kurchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, explained in an interview with the Russian Novosti Agency that the NATO nuclear exercises were designed to prove to Russia that they are capable of confronting the upcoming changes in its nuclear doctrine, and that the United States and the NATO countries are prepared for a limited nuclear war in Europe.

He added: “The United States and NATO are sending us indirect signals by which they are trying to show us that they are ready to fight a limited nuclear war in Europe, even as we announce new standards according to which we can respond with a nuclear strike to any specific developments in the political-military situation in the region and aggression against Russia”.

He continued: “As a result, NATO “raised the bar” and showed that it is ready to respond to Russia’s change in its nuclear doctrine.”

Kurchenko stressed, “The new Secretary-General of NATO, Mark Rutte, can be considered the Secretary-General of a limited nuclear war in Europe,” noting that the Europeans have become dependent on Washington’s policies in the region.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced that the alliance will begin annual nuclear exercises on Monday, against the backdrop of increasing nuclear rhetoric by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko previously announced that Russia is working to modernize its nuclear doctrine so that its opponents have no illusions that Russia is not ready to guarantee its security by all available means.

Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed the most prominent changes in the “nuclear doctrine,” in which he stressed that “in its updated version, aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear country with the participation or support of a nuclear country is considered a joint aggression against Russia that requires a nuclear response.”
