An ex-Sony exec believes that the company orphaned the PS Vita

Although to date there are people who positively value and enjoy this console, the PlayStation Vita It clearly didn’t reach the levels of popularity and recognition of the rest of Sony’s consoles.

But while it would be easy to try to explain what happened to that console simply by bringing up issues of player demand and interest, Jack Tretton feel that there would also be a share of responsibility on the part of Sony.

Tretton, who served as President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America between 2006 and 2014, recently spoke with the portal Axios and regretted that some of Sony’s most innovative projects will remain “a bit orphaned”.

When asked what projects he was referring to, Tretton pointed to the PS Vita and other elements such as virtual reality headsets.

“Certainly there were technologies that I thought were good but just didn’t have the level of support that they needed,” he said. Tretton referring to the PS Vita, 3D gaming and virtual reality gambling. “When you work for a big company, you have to love everything they do, whether you like it personally or not.”

According to Axios, Tretton’s comments would not be a deliberate attack on Sony, but rather a reflection on a problem in the industry.

“So you come up with a new technology to introduce to industry and consumers,” the executive said. “But do you have the marketing budget to really push the message? Do you have the developer support dollars to incentivize them to develop games to support this initiative? Sometimes you created technology and hoped it would catch on.”
