“He was wanted for non-compliance with the conditions set during his parole, but he managed to escape before his transfer”, explain the authorities. The facts took place overnight from Monday to Tuesday. The man is well known to authorities for assaults on law enforcement and drug-related offences.
Wanted by the West Flanders prosecutor’s office, he was identified by the police in Brussels and arrested in the process. He managed to escape before his transfer, however, by breaking the toilet in his cell and sneaking through a hole in the wall. “From there, he arrived in a corridor on the lower floor. He then probably managed to get out through a window,” said Tom Janssens, from the West Flanders prosecutor’s office.
The cell’s surveillance camera was faulty at the time.
