Developments are recorded in the case of abuse of a minor by an employee of the Ministry of Culture, which has caused reactions. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the employee has been suspended.

“From the Ministry of Culture it is announced that, following publications in the printed and electronic press, in which reference is made to criminally reprehensible and disciplinary controllable behaviors of an employee of the EFA Dodecanese, an order was given to the competent General Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage to carry out an administrative investigation”, characteristically states the Ministry of Culture and continues:

“Furthermore, by decision of the Minister of Culture, Linas Mendoni, the above employee is suspended, in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Servants Code.”

Uproar and fury
It is noted that the case caused the anger of the island’s residents, as the minor’s father had filed a complaint of sexual abuse, but… he was arrested by the police and is at risk of deportation. The residents proceeded with mobilizations, denouncing abusive and vindictive prosecution once morest the father.

As clarified by EL.AS. the father was asked to show the perpetrator of the abuse of his child who is not yet 12 years old and then following the competent Prosecutor was informed, the accused was arrested, while digital evidence was seized that will be sent for laboratory analysis, while the minor was examined in the presence of a psychologist .

Regarding the arrest reports, EL.AS clarifies that there was indeed a pending decision to ban entry into the country. Upon completion of the child abuse investigation, an administrative proceeding was implemented, without detention, and the father was given 25 days to further resolve his outstanding issues.

On Monday, April 15, 2024, the Nisyros Police Station received information from “Smile of the Child” regarding, at an unspecified time, an incident of sexual indecency once morest a minor under the age of 12.

After searching and locating the victim’s family, his father was called to the Nisyros Police Station, who identified a resident of the island as the perpetrator and informed that the incident took place on Friday, April 12, 2024.

The competent Prosecutor was immediately informed and the alleged perpetrator was brought in and examined, while digital evidence was seized which will be sent for laboratory analysis.

By order of the competent Prosecutor, the victim and his father went, with the assistance of the police, to the Security Department of Kos, to examine the minor with the appropriate procedure, in the presence of a psychologist.

It is noted that the police, from the first moment, had established that a decision to ban entry into the country was pending once morest the minor’s father. However, taking into account the seriousness of the complaint and in order to avoid any delay, the police authorities gave importance to the pre-investigation procedure. Upon completion of this, an administrative procedure was implemented, without detention, and the father was given 25 days to further settle his outstanding issues.
