An Emirati academic comments on America’s opposition to the “OPEC Plus” decision to reduce oil production: Washington must wake up

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Emirati academic, Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, commented on Thursday on the American position regarding the announcement by the Organization of the Petroleum Producing State and its partners, or what is known as “OPEC Plus”, on Wednesday, to reduce its oil production by two million barrels per day. US President Joe Biden described the production cut as “disappointing”.

Abdullah said, through his account on Twitter: “America used to control the oil of the Arabian Gulf in the past, decide its production and price, and manage it according to its interests and needs. Suddenly America lost its control over Gulf oil, it commands and does not obey, threatens and no one cares.”

He added: “Washington must wake up that there is a new Gulf, and that the oil decision is Gulf and not American, and this is final, whether or not some like Washington.”

It is noteworthy that the “OPEC Plus” Organization said, on Wednesday, that the decision comes “in light of the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for the global economy and the oil market, and the need to strengthen the long-term guidance of the oil market,” and added that it would reduce oil production by two million barrels per day starting from November. November.

This is the largest cut since the start of the Corona epidemic, in a move that threatens to push gasoline prices higher just weeks before the US midterm elections.

The Saudi Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, confirmed in a press conference for the organization, on Wednesday, that “(OPEC +) is interested in fulfilling the commitments it made towards the global economy, stressing that it “will remain a pivotal force in achieving global economic stability.”

On the other hand, White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said that the “OPEC +” decision to reduce oil production “aligns itself with Russia.”
