It’s both a longboard and a Ripstik, and it behaves like a snowboard. The Velocity Etch is an innovative electric skateboard project. It has two large wheel pairs placed at the front and rear, and a deck that is also divided into two parts like on a Ripstik. These two trays rest on a tube serving as a frame. It allows both to obtain the performance of a longboard, while allowing you to take turns like on a snowboard with its own Ripstik capabilities.

The invention was developed by skateboarder Kevin Ravenberg. He is in Utah in the United States and just wanted to have some fun before going any further with this project. For more performance and speed, it combined two 1,500 watt electric motors. They are piloted via a wireless remote control. They can propel the board at a speed of 39 km/h. This speed goes well beyond our regulations which limit it to 25 km/h.

The RipStik for Dummies

Carrying an 80 kilo person, the Velocity Etch has a range of 16 to 24 kilometers on flat roads. It can just as well climb hills up to a 35% gradient. While controlling a real RipStik is complicated at first, the Etch makes it a whole lot easier with its four all-terrain, pneumatic-pneumatic wheels. The Velocity Etch is also removable and its three separate pieces can be carried in a backpack. It still weighs 11 pounds. For the moment, the project is the subject of a campaign on Kickstarter. When it reaches its funding goal to launch production, its price is expected to be $1,399.
