The media group of former US President Donald Trump plans to launch its own social network, “Truth Social” on February 21, according to an announcement on the App Store to download applications.
According to the announcement, “Truth Social” is expected to become available for download on the Apple App Store on February 21.
This app will have similar features to Facebook’s communication tools, according to the same source.
The Trump Media and Technology Group, which owns Truth Social, did not immediately respond to a question by AFP regarding the upcoming event.
The Republican billionaire had decided to launch his own network following his accounts on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube were banned in January 2020 on charges of inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol.
Trump said he decided to create this platform “to stand up to the tyranny of the tech giants,” accusing the major companies in Silicon Valley of “using their unilateral power to silence dissident voices in America.”
The three social media giants, “Facebook”, “Twitter” and “YouTube”, imposed a ban on the Republican billionaire in the wake of the bloody attack launched by a group of his supporters on the Capitol Building on the sixth of January in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the victory of his rival Joe Biden for the presidency.
Prior to his ban, Trump had nearly 89 million followers on Twitter, 35 million on Facebook, and 24 million on Instagram.
Trump has always resorted to Twitter to communicate with his supporters, and many of the key decisions he made while he was president, and the dismissals and appointments he made, were revealed through this platform.
