**Interview with Dr. Laila Hassan, Middle East Policy Analyst**
**Interviewer:** Dr. Hassan, thank you for joining us today. In light of the recent meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, both men expressed a strong commitment to enhancing economic relations, aiming for $15 billion in trade and greater cooperation in various sectors. What do you believe are the implications of this renewed partnership for the region?
**Dr. Hassan:** Thank you for having me. This meeting signifies a pivotal shift in Egyptian-Turkish relations, highlighting a mutual interest in strengthening economic ties amidst regional instability. With both countries navigating complex geopolitical landscapes, their collaboration—particularly in sectors like energy and infrastructure—could foster greater stability and economic growth.
**Interviewer:** The ministers also addressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing humanitarian aid access. Given the ongoing conflicts, how do you see this affecting their diplomatic intentions?
**Dr. Hassan:** The acknowledgment of the need for a ceasefire indicates a recognition of shared challenges and responsibilities in the region. By aligning on humanitarian issues, Egypt and Turkey could enhance their diplomatic standing and showcase their roles as regional leaders advocating for peace. However, achieving practical outcomes in these discussions will require sustained commitment and cooperation, which can be challenging.
**Interviewer:** In the aftermath of President El-Sisi’s visit to Turkey last September, there seems to be a turning point in relations. Do you think this partnership can withstand the pressures of ongoing regional crises, such as those in Sudan, Libya, and Syria?
**Dr. Hassan:** That’s a critical question. While there is potential for cooperation, the ability of Egypt and Turkey to maintain their partnership amidst ongoing regional crises is contingent on their ability to navigate their differences and prioritize actionable strategies over rhetoric. The real test will be how both nations will manage competing interests and regional rivalries.
**Interviewer:** what would you like to pose as a question to our readers regarding this topic?
**Dr. Hassan:** I would challenge our readers to consider: Do you believe that the strengthening of Egyptian-Turkish ties will lead to lasting peace and economic stability in the region, or do you think underlying tensions and conflicts will undermine these efforts? Your thoughts could shape a deeper understanding of these complex international relationships.
