The goal of this trend is how you looked in your twenties. Users are participating in the trend by sharing their old photos, including celebrities from the Pakistani showbiz industry, politicians and consumers.
Social media users were most amused by the shared picture of singer Shehzad Roy and wrote that why not 20, 40, 60 and 80 years, Shehzad Roy will look like this.
On one hand, users are enjoying sharing their old memories on the internet, on the other hand, there is a fear that after this trend, there is a possibility of misuse of users’ photos.
Osama Khilji, Director of Digital Rights Activism in Pakistan, while talking to the British news agency, said that ‘the business of social media companies runs on the basis of selling our personal information’.
He cautioned that consumers should not share their personal information on the Internet because all this data is later sold to businesses that want to drive their business through advertising.
Social media companies are gathering information about the likes and dislikes of users with the help of artificial intelligence, after which they will be able to send their advertisements to the relevant people in less time. He said, ‘The biggest benefit of this trend will be those organizations and app makers that use facial recognition technology.
Nighat Dad, founder of the Digital Rights Foundation, said that ‘consumers should be aware that whatever personal information they share on the Internet will be there forever in one form or another.’
