The earth shook on the night of September 22-23, 2024 in Loire-Atlantique. A small earthquake whose epicenter is located in Couëron, but which was felt in the region of Saint-Nazaire and the north of the Pays de Retz.

Small earthquake

It was 3:30 this Monday morning when the earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 according to the National Seismic Monitoring Network (RéNaSS)was felt. Although moderate, the tremors were felt quite far around the epicenter.

Residents of Savenay, Donges, Vigneux-de-Bretagne, but also on the other side of the Loire, such as in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, have reported tremors and a “thud”.

“I thought it was a storm”

On social media, many people are wondering about this “growl” heard last night that woke them up.

Many people initially thought it was thunder.

In Donges, one resident thought that “it was a storm, I was waiting for the second growl”. Another was woken up by her dog, who barked in the middle of the night. But others felt the earth shake.

No damage

Of very low magnitude, the earthquake fortunately caused no casualties or damage.
