The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported, on Saturday, that an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale had occurred in central Turkey. The center added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers.

A series of earthquakes struck Turkey in the last period, the strongest of which was on February 6, and resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the same number of injuries.

The death toll in Turkey and Syria as a result of the earthquake that occurred on the sixth of February exceeded 50,000, on Friday, between Turkey and Syria, after Turkey announced that the death toll on its territory had risen to more than 44,000.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey rose to 44,218 on Friday night.

With the addition of the latest announced number in Syria, which is 5,914 dead, the total death toll in the two countries has risen to more than 50,000.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said that the country was subjected to 9,136 aftershocks after the earthquake, which centered on the state of Kahramanmaraş at dawn on February 6.

It said that the earthquake resulted in the death of 44,218 people in the states of Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adi Yaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya and Elazig.

It confirmed that the number of people who were evacuated from the affected areas reached 528,146 people.

On February 6, a double earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, the first measuring 7.7 and the second 7.6 degrees, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks, killing tens of thousands, mostly in southern Turkey, in addition to massive destruction.

The Turkish Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that an earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale had been recorded on Friday evening in eastern Turkey.

According to the statement, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 5 km, near the city of Sivas, in eastern Turkey. There were no reports of injuries or damages.
