An astronaut accidentally dropped a small mirror in space

The American space agency NASA says that an astronaut accidentally dropped a small mirror while working in space, which has been lost in the vastness of space.

NASA says astronaut Commander Chris was on his way out of the International Space Station for a spacewalk to work on the station’s batteries when the mirror fell from his suit.

According to NASA, this mirror is attached to astronauts’ clothing, and when Commander Chris exited the space station, it somehow became detached from his clothing.

The above-mentioned mirror floated in space at a rate of one foot per second, out of the commander’s reach. No danger.

NASA says that this mirror is installed on each sleeve of the astronauts’ spacesuits so that the astronauts can keep an eye on their surroundings while working. The mirror measures 3 by 5 inches and weighs barely one-tenth of a pound, including the attached band.

According to NASA, astronaut Commander Chris, along with another colleague, Bob Banken, is working to replace the space station’s aging nickel-hydrogen batteries.

New lithium-ion batteries are being installed in the International Space Station, which will now last for as long as the space station remains operational. In this mission, launched in 2017, 18 batteries have been installed in the station so far, while astronauts Chris and Bob will install 6 more batteries.

The work will be completed by July this year after which Commander Chris will return to Earth in August.
