BhuScientists have observed an asteroid heading towards Mi. Named ‘2023 DW’, the asteroid is estimated to be the size of an Olympic swimming pool (50 meters in diameter). It takes 271 days to orbit the sun once. At present, the position of the asteroid is 2,24,39,680 km from the Earth.
We’ve been tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW that has a very small chance of impacting Earth in 2046. Often when new objects are first discovered, it takes several weeks of data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/SaLC0AUSdP

However, NASA states that this asteroid will not pose a threat to Earth. The chance of ‘2023 DW’ hitting Earth is only one in 560 (0.18 percent). There is a 99.82 percent chance of passing safely to Earth. NASA predicts that it will reach Earth on February 14, 2046. Then, the distance from earth will be 14.37 lakh km. NASA says it takes weeks of observation to accurately predict the orbits of asteroids.
