An asteroid approaching Earth .. “it will be large enough to destroy a continent.”

The US space agency “NASA” said; A massive space rock is headed toward Earth this week, although it is unlikely to collide with it.

NASA named the asteroid “2022 BH7”, explaining that it will approach Earth today, Friday, and is expected to be the size of the famous Empire State Building in New York.

And she indicated that the asteroid is on its way to fly safely across Earth, stressing that it does not pose any threat to life.

She explained that in the event of a collision, the asteroid “2022” BH7 would be large enough to destroy an entire continent.

The asteroid “2022 BH7” was discovered earlier in 2022, and it is believed to be between 170 and 380 meters wide.

The US space agency indicated that the space rock will pass Earth at a safe distance of 2.3 million miles, which is approximately six times the distance between Earth and the Moon, so there is no need for concern.

NASA does not believe that any of the NEOs it observes are on a collision course with our planet, but that may change in the coming months or years, so the US space agency is constantly reviewing the expected paths of the objects.

She pointed out that she does not know that there is an asteroid or a comet currently on a collision course with the Earth, so the probability of a large collision is very small, noting that it is not likely that any large body will hit the Earth at any time in the next few hundred years.

And she considered that even if they collided with our planet, the vast majority of asteroids would not erase life as we know it, explaining that “global catastrophes” only occur when objects more than 900 meters high from Earth collide.
