An armed attack in a bar in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, leaves 3 dead and 7 wounded

The shooting at the Ciudad Juárez bar is reminiscent of other armed attacks such as the one in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz that left 30 dead or the last in some establishments in Puerto Morelos and Tulum, in Quintana Roo.

Mexico City, Jan 10 (EFE) .- A attack armed in a bar from Town Juarez, Chihuahua Y frontera with state United, left three dead and seven wounded, official sources reported Monday.

The shooting took place Sunday night at the establishment Viejo West, where several armed persons opened fire inside the premises.

The Chihuahua State Attorney General’s Office reported in a bulletin regarding the beginning of the investigations “to clarify the motive for an armed attack that occurred last Sunday night in a nightclub in the Partido Romero neighborhood, in Ciudad Juárez.”

At the moment the causes of the attack and the identity of the attackers are unknown, matters that the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating. In addition, a few minutes following the attack, agents of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and municipal police appeared in the area.

The attack is reminiscent of the one perpetrated by drug trafficking in August 2019 in a night bar in the port of Coatzacoalcos, in the state of Veracruz, which left thirty people dead.

Or also to several attacks that occurred in establishments in the Riviera Maya in recent months that stained this tourist paradise in Mexico with blood.

In early November an armed group stormed a beach in Bahía Petempich, an exclusive area of ​​the municipality of Puerto Morelos, in the state of Quintana Roo, and killed two alleged members of a rival group.

While in October, a shooting at a restaurant in the Tulum resort – one of the most fashionable places in the Mexican Caribbean – left two foreign tourists dead and three others injured.

Mexico has recorded the most violent years in its history in the first two years of the mandate of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with 34,690 murder victims in 2019 and 34,554 in 2020.

According to preliminary data from the federal government released last Thursday, Mexico closed 2021 with 33,410 intentional homicides, a reduction of 4.1 percent compared to the 34,554 murders in 2020.
