Argentine wine continues to make history in the world and this time it was the turn of Cabernet Franc, from the El Enemigo winery, to preserve the prestige of one of the most famous drinks in Mendoza by achieving second place in the Top 100 Wines World by the American sommelier. James Suckling. Given this great feat, Canal E had the opportunity to talk with the owner of the award-winning stay, Alejandro Vigil.
“The important thing is not so much the wine itself but we have put an Argentine wine in a world top. That is fundamental to understand that Argentine wine has taken on a very strong international relevance”commented Alejandro Vigil. “People don’t remember the brands or the names of the wines, but you do remember that it comes from Argentina”he added.
Tourism in Mendoza is mainly focused on wine
Later, Vigil stated: “Wine has a particularity that no other product has. And if you go to a gondola it says where it comes from, what valley it comes from, what family makes it, how it is made and there is total traceability that takes you to a place”. Then, he stated that, “today Mendoza has tourism and tourism among its main activities. It largely has to do with wine.”.
To define the top 100, 10,000 wines were tested
“They were tested close to 10,000 wines to make up the ranking”, highlighted the interviewee. “The most important thing is to understand that it is a person’s opinion, which is not absolute either, but it’s someone’s opinion. The interesting thing regarding these people who are becoming famous in the world of wine is that they usually agrees with the majority of consumers“, complete.
Along the same lines, the winemaker pointed out: “This person becomes famous because when he gives a score, people go, buy the wine and you usually like what the reviewer has rated”. At the same time, he stressed that, “it is a way to measure quality, but it is determined by someone’s opinion”.
Cabernet Franc: the sensations of the wine that won second place
“Cabernet Franc has a characteristic that is extremely transparent to where it comes from”Vigili expressed. “For me to make wines is putting landscapes in the bottlewhich does not mean that when you try the wine you are going to go to the place, but it has certain characteristics that are linked to the climate where it is and the time of that yearwhich was 2019,” he stated.
