The pilots Francisco Moreno Flores and Manuel Andújar, both aboard a Yamaha Raptor 700, were placed yesterday at the head of the quad category in the Dakar Rally of Saudi Arabia, holding the prologue stage of 27 timed kilometers, with 130 links, in the town of Al-Ula.

Moreno Flores from Mendoza, runner-up in the last two editions, obtained the third partial victory in his history of the competition following covering the distance in 21 minutes, 31 seconds, with a difference of less than a minute compared to his compatriot.

Andújar, champion in 2021, was 21 seconds behind and relegated the Frenchman Alexandre Giroud (Yamaha Raptor 700), winner of the 2022 and 2023 Dakar, to third place, 1:15 away from the category leader.

Moreno Flores, 27 years old, is competing in his third edition of the most demanding rally in the world with the hope of feeding Argentina’s winning tradition in quadricycles. The Albiceleste flag flew seven times at the top of the podium at the end of the event thanks to Marcos Patronelli (2010, 2013, 2016), his brother Alejandro Patronelli (2011, 2012), Nicolás Cavigliasso (2019) and Andújar (2021 ).

“The quad worked perfectly,” the Tupungato pilot enthused upon arriving at the Al-Ula camp.

In the motorcycle category, the brothers from Salta Kevin and Luciano Benavides were in the top ten of the classification, less than a minute behind the winner of the prologue, the Spanish Tosha Schareina (Monster Energy Honda).
