An Arab meeting demands an end to the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the entry of aid

Cairo – An emergency Arab meeting, yesterday, Thursday, called for an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, and to speed up the provision of urgent aid to it.

This came in a decision issued by the Council of the League of Arab States, which was held at the League’s headquarters in Cairo at the level of permanent delegates, at the request of Iraq.

On Monday, Baghdad submitted a request to hold an emergency meeting of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, to discuss the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, according to the official Iraqi news agency “INA.”

Since last September 23, Israel has launched the “most violent and widespread” attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with the Palestinian factions about a year ago, resulting in at least 1,120 deaths, including children and women, 3,040 wounded, and 1,200,000 displaced people, according to Anatolia’s monitoring of official data. Lebanese.

On the other hand, sirens continue to sound at an unprecedented rate across Israel, following heavy launching by Lebanese factions of missiles, drones and artillery shells targeting military sites and settlements, amid a strict Israeli blackout on human and material losses, according to observers.

The Council affirmed its “strong condemnation of the barbaric and prolonged Israeli aggression against Lebanon, stressing the need to stop it immediately and warning of the danger of its continuation.”

The Council considered “any incursion or occupation of part of Lebanese territory an attack on Arab national security.”

He stressed “full solidarity with Lebanon in the face of the dangerous aggression that led to the martyrdom of thousands of civilians, including children, women, the elderly, and paramedics, and the serious injury of thousands of them, and to the internal displacement of more than a million people, as a result of the destruction of thousands of housing units, and the transformation of entire cities and villages into rubble.”

He pointed out that these attacks “constitute crimes against humanity, a flagrant violation of international conventions and treaties, and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.”

The Arab League Council held “Israel responsible for the aggression,” and called for “it to be held accountable and prosecuted before international forums and courts.”

He asked “friendly Arab countries, and Arab, regional and international organizations, to expedite the provision of financial and in-kind assistance (to Lebanon) after the barbaric aggression.”

The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of permanent delegates, decided “to keep its sessions in permanent session, to follow up the situation and call the Ministerial Council to convene when necessary.”

He stressed “supporting Lebanon’s position, and keeping pace with its efforts and contacts with the international community, by pressuring Israel to stop its continued aggression against Lebanon and an immediate ceasefire, and obligating it to implement international legitimacy resolutions, especially Resolution 1701.”

On August 11, 2006, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 1701, which called for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

The decision called for the creation of an area between the Blue Line (separating Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, free of any militants, military equipment and weapons, except those belonging to the Lebanese army and the UN “UNIFIL” forces.

Since October 8, 2023, Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have exchanged daily bombardments with the Israeli army across the dividing “Blue Line,” resulting in a total of at least 1,974 dead and 9,384 wounded, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

These factions demand an end to the genocide committed by Israel, with American support, in the Gaza Strip since October 7. It left more than 138,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
