An application to optimize the battery of your MacBook

The AlDente application is available on all MacBooks, in free and premium versions.

Do you know AlDente? No, this is not regarding the cooking time recommended by the Italians for cooking your pasta, but regarding a new application for MacBook. Developed by the AppHouseKitchen studio, originally from Vienna, Austria, the application helps extend the battery life of your MacBook. A rather useful feature when our laptop shows the weight of the years.

AlDente is the first app published by David Wernhart and Matthias Kerbl. The idea came to them following a personal experience. “After the battery in one of our MacBooks died just following a year from being plugged in at 100% most of the time, we knew we had to do something regarding it. The idea of AlDente was born.”

The application offers a free version, which offers two very useful features: a load limiter and discharge. The charge limiter is, as its name suggests, a function that interrupts charging once it has reached a certain charge percentage. For example, if your MacBook has only 25% charge left, you plug it in and AlDente is open and set to 80%, the battery will charge to that percentage, then charging will stop automatically . Rather practical when you know that it is advisable to keep a battery percentage between 20% and 80%.

Discharging allows you to return to a reasonable level of charge when the computer is plugged in. So if your slider is placed at 80% as above and your MacBook is charging and is at 96%, press the button Unload so that charging turns off, lets the MacBook go down to 80% and only stays at that percentage without discharging.

A complete Premium offer

Beyond these two features, AlDente offers a lot of other options with the Premium offer. Protection of the battery once morest heat during charging, automatic calibration mode, “real” display of the state of the battery… Count 11.5 € per year or 24.2 € for a perpetual license, which may seem little compared to the price charged to Apple for a new battery, namely nearly 200 €.

On MacBooks, third-party apps can no longer run when the machine goes to sleep. AlDente is no exception, and the developers have found a solution to this problem. Just before going to sleep, AlDente will stop charging to keep it at the limited rate. Obviously, this is a function reserved for Pro users.

Finally, be aware that AlDente will install an assistant application on first launch and you will be asked to disable the optimized battery charging offered by macOS.

AlDente is available for free (or in Pro version) on the AppHouseKitchen site.
