An Apple-1 signed by Wozniak soon to be auctioned

An Apple-1 autographed by Steve Wozniak will soon be auctioned.

This is a small event in the world of auctions and IT. In the next few days, a very special auction will begin. Indeed, the product offered for sale is an Apple-1 still in working order signed by the co-founder of Apple. Another particularity of this extremely rare piece, it would be the “first Apple product used outside of North America”.

Origin of the Apple-1

The Apple-1 was the first Apple product released in 1976. Why was the Apple-1 already revolutionary at the time? In 1975, the microcomputers had neither screen nor keyboard, they had to be programmed by switches and the data was displayed using LED panels or with teleprinters.

The brilliant idea of Woz was to design a microcomputer with a real keyboard and allowing the use of a simple television screen as a terminal, it was revolutionary at the time, because it did not exist. He had invented the first real personal computer.

A unique Apple-1

In 2021, the famous collector of Apple devices, Jimmy Grewal was able to meet the co-founder of Apple. The latter dedicated his copy of Apple-1 to him. Woz’s signature sits directly on the CPU of the Apple-1. Very few Apple-1s bear the signature of Steve Jobs or Steve Wozniak, and this is the only known example to have been signed on the iconic white ceramic 6502 processor.

An original version of the Apple I, with its original packaging and a letter signed by Steve Jobs, was auctioned at Christie’s in London on November 23, 2010. The computer was estimated at 180,000 euros and the bid finally amounted to 150,000 euros.
